SunPIOLOgy Run marks 8th year with #SugarWars

One of the most anticipated holiday fundraising activities in the country marked its eighth year in a stunning, yet meaningful way. Sun Life of Canada (Philippines), Inc. in partnership with ABS-CBN’s Star Magic talent management agency mounted this year’s SunPIOLOgy, with a unique theme–#SugarWars.

The event carried double advocacies, anchored on health and education in an effort to help raise public awareness about diabetes, a serious medical condition that is affecting more Filipinos due to unhealthy lifestyle. Thus, the Hebreo Foundation Institute for Studies on Diabetes Foundation, Inc (ISDFI) is among its main beneficiaries.

#SugarWars is in line with the top insurance firm’s campaign to promote a more active lifestyle, which is proven to be an effective preventive measure not just against diabetes but also against a host of several other common medical conditions.

At the same time, proceeds from the activity will also fund scholarship of students that are currently being sponsored by Star Magic. SunPIOLOgy is also supporting the Noordhoff Craniofacial Foundation Philippines, Inc.

Overwhelming support

As expected, SunPIOLOgy was another success, gathering around 3,000 registered participants in Camp Aguinaldo Grandstand in Quezon City on November 19. Main man and Sun Life’s long-time celebrity endorser Piolo Pascual spearheaded the event, this time together with his son Iñigo, who is himself Sun Life’s GoWell campaign youth ambassador, and numerous other celebrity talents from Star Magic’s ward.

Sun Life Philippines President and CEO Riza Mantaring expressed her gratitude and appreciation to everyone who supported the event. “We are overjoyed with the overwhelming support that we received from various sponsors and partner organizations led by Star Magic and its talents,” she said.

“We are proud to have all of you in the SunPIOLOgy family, and we look forward to more years of working together for fitness, education, and diabetes-prevention,” Mantaring continued.

Fun activity

Before the fun run commenced that afternoon, the activity area was filled with excitement as the organizers facilitated fun games and distributed giveaways. Among the highlights were the basketball shootout and the very challenging mechanical bull ride, courtesy of GoWell. The highest scorer and longest bull rider received a Garmin Vivofit 3 each.

Meanwhile, selected participants who shared photos across the social media were given the exclusive privilege to take selfies with Pascual. On the other hand, the fun run’s race winners bagged premium items.

SunPIOLOgy: #SugarWars culminated with a night event, which was capped with performances from Star Magic talents. Sun Life Asia President Kevin Strain closed the activity with a simple advice: “Even after today’s SunPIOLOgy Run, keep on moving, running, walking, swimming, dancing, or playing. Just get off the couch and be active!”
